International Profile
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) participates in international cooperation
networks and programmes,
and its present directions at the international level
are to ensure:
- effective mobility of students, teaching and administrative staff;
- implementation of international projects at local, regional and Baltic level;
- participation in international conferences and research done abroad.
- Partners we can trust and who can trust in us;
- Sending abroad students whom we believe in;
- Active networking and transfer of knowledge;
- Mobility of teaching staff leading to internationalization at home.
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences takes part in the following NETWORKS:
- Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management is a member of ATLAS (Association for Tourism and Leisure Education); activities include participation in research projects, conferences and publications.
- Faculty of Social Sciences is a member in EUPRERA (European Public Relations Education and Research Association): an organisation that aims at stimulating and promoting the knowledge and practice of public relations education and research in Europe.
- International Office is a member of EAIE (European Association of International Education): organisation whose main aim is the stimulation and facilitation of the internationalisation of higher education in Europe and around the world, and to meet the professional needs of individuals active in international education.
- Development Department is a member of Baltic Sea Network whose main aim is to develop the Baltic Sea area in accordance with EU policy.
- Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences is represented in the Nordplus programme network EkoTekNord, which promotes the mobility of students and staff within the Nordic and Baltic countries and cooperation in developing new courses and new intensive courses within higher education.
MOBILITY forms the largest part of international activities
in ViA:
- Erasmus, HESP and Nordplus programmes provide students of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences with a possibility to study or do internship abroad for one or two semesters and receive recognition of this mobility period.
- Every semester ViA admits a number of incoming exchange students that join the courses offered in English. We believe that exchange students add international perspective to the study process and university life which is a great benefit to the university, its students and teaching staff.
- Erasmus and Fulbright programmes facilitate mobility activities of teaching and administrative staff. The university supports the initiatives of lecturing in partner universities and exchanging experience with colleagues abroad.
- A number of guest lecturers from all over the world come to do lecturing in Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, thus adding to the quality and modernity of ViA study programmes. Teachers from the the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, China, Norway, Iceland, USA and Ireland have lectured during 2008/2009.
- Every summer ViA organizes Baltic International Summer School (BISS) inviting participants and lecturers from all over the world and focusing on topical issues in the field of social sciences.
